NEW TREATMENT FOR DOUBLE CHIN: KYBELLA™
Having a double chin not only affects the look of your facial profile, but it is also very difficult to get rid of. Submental fat that accumulates beneath the chin can’t be dealt with using diet and exercise alone. Sometimes a little extra help is necessary to achieve one’s ideal look.
“We at The Center for Dermatology Care are excited to be one of the first Dermatology Practices in Ventura County offering Kybella™ to our patients, a new, fat-dissolving injection for the treatment of submental fullness (double chin).” -Andrew J. Kaufman, M.D., F.A.C.P.
What is Kybella?
The Center for Dermatology Care is now offering Kybella™, a non-surgical, FDA approved way to improve your chin profile. Kybella™ is the first and only injectable drug for submental fullness, or “double chin”. Submental fullness can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics, and weight gain and is often resistant to diet and exercise.
According to a survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, nearly as many consumers are bothered by submental fullness (68%) as by lines and wrinkles around the eyes (71%).
The Kybella Procedure
Each in-office treatment session with Kybella™ is typically 20-30 minutes. When injected into subcutaneous fat, Kybella™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat again.
With this non-surgical treatment, many patients experience visible results in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart. Treatment with Kybella™ is customized by your doctor to fit the patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved chin profile.
Are There Side Effects to Using Kybella?
The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and formation of areas of firmness in the treatment area. In clinical trials, the incidence and severity of most side effects decreased with subsequent Kybella™ treatments.
In order to address the common side effects of Kybella treatments, and to minimize them, patients can practice the following:
- Applying cold packs or ice to the treatment area
- Applying warm compresses
- Wearing a chin strap
- Taking over-the-counter painkillers for reducing swelling and pain
- Massaging the treated area
Apart from these common side effects, patients may also experience certain uncommon side effects such as trouble swallowing, facial muscle weakness, open sores, severe bruising, and skin tissue damage. Typically, these uncommon side effects go away on their own in time.
How Much Does Kybella Cost?
The cost of Kybella treatments will vary from patient to patient depending on their individual needs. We’ll perform an initial assessment of your facial contours and develop a treatment plan to address your aesthetic concerns. We will then discuss the associated cost of your customized Kybella treatment.
